How to Match Stage Lights with the Right Power Supply
The power supply for stage lights needs to be matched according to the type of lighting fixture, usage scenario, and load requirements. There is no fixed value, but the core range covers 100W–2400W, and a 20% power reserve is required to ensure stable operation (to avoid full-load loss and accommodate dimming, instantaneous startup, etc.). The specific matching standards are as follows:
I. Power Range Divided by Lighting Fixture Type
1. Small decorative lighting fixtures (downlights, small beam lights, footlights): Low power requirements, suitable for 100W–300W power supplies, mostly DC output (12V/24V), adapting to the low power consumption characteristics of LED light sources, suitable for creating local atmosphere.
2. Conventional functional lighting fixtures (spotlights, floodlights, profile lights): Medium power, suitable for 300W–1000W power supplies. Spotlights and follow spots often require 2KW–4KW (traditional halogen light sources), while LED versions can be reduced to 500W–800W, balancing brightness and energy saving.
3. Large special effects lighting fixtures (moving head lights, sky panels): High power requirements, suitable for 800W–2400W power supplies. Moving head lights, due to motor drive + high-intensity light output, often require power supplies above 1000W, and have extremely high requirements for power supply stability and dimming compatibility (DMX512 protocol).
II. Key Matching Principles
1. Power Reserve: Regardless of the type of lighting fixture, the rated power of the power supply needs to be 20% higher than the maximum power of the lighting fixture to cope with load fluctuations during dimming switching and instantaneous startup, and to prevent power supply overheating protection or damage.
2. Light Source and Power Supply Type Matching: LED stage lights are mostly equipped with DC power supplies (12V/24V/48V), while traditional halogen lamps and metal halide lamps can be equipped with AC power supplies. Chengdian Xinsheng's 48V intelligent charger (CE/FCC certified) can meet the charging needs of the energy storage module of high-power LED stage lights, ensuring compliance and stability. 3. Scene Adaptation and Adjustment: For indoor fixed stages, high-power power supplies (1000W–2400W) can be used. For outdoor touring performances, portability and protection (IP65/IP67) should be prioritized, and the power can be reduced to 300W–800W as needed.
